Weekending && Favorites

Monday, we meet again! This weekend started off on the wrong foot with me typing up my Friday Favorites and somehow deleting ALL of it, Saturday ended roughly (see below), but Mother's Day was great and took a total of 2 pictures the entire weekend.

Friday night after my post deleted itself, B and I went out for dinner and to pick up some cards for Mother's Day. Came back just in time to watch a movie then it was an early bed time for us.

Saturday we left for Odessa as soon as Tate got home. B slept most of the way with her hand inside of her muffin wrapper before we even noticed. Must have been some knockout muffins!

We then went to my aunt's house and had a great time visiting with my family. Things took a turn for the worst leaving her house to go to dinner. We were next to her at a red light and she and Tate were acting like they were going to race (a tahoe vs a yukon xl, keep in mind). She beats us out of the light and Tate starts to blame things on the horsepower and that's why he was losing. I tapped the dash and said something along the lines of 'she may be getting old but she still runs just the same as she did in 08' - that, folks, is called irony! Not kidding, right after I said that my aunt calls me to tell me there was smoke coming out from under my car. Lovely! It wasn't black smoke, more like a cloudy white, and coming out directly under my door. We got through the next red light and my tahoe started shaking, the check engine light came on, and the message center said 'engine overheat'. In my mind I was thinking surely it wasn't from that "race". It wasn't. I would have hated sharing that story - boyfriend and aunt were racing the SUV's and boyfriend lost. Ha! We pulled over into a parking lot  and as soon as Tate popped the hood smoke went everywhere and I noticed the entire back left side looked wet. A hose (I'll spare the details because I really don't know much about it) had completely broken off. Not just came off, it completely snapped. If you look closely you can see that the hose is detached with the connector part on it.

Lucky for us, we were all headed to go eat dinner so I had family not too far behind us. My uncle picked us up, dropped me off to eat and he and Tate temporarily fixed my car. She runs, but smells like antifreeze. Whew! I mean, things could have been a lost worst and I'm so very thankful it wasn't. I'm also glad we were back home and had plenty of family around. I couldn't imagine something like that happening with just me and B in a place we didn't know.

As for Sunday, Mother's Day was great! More Mexican food and more family time. I got a book from B, picture frame with B's hand print from my mom and a new purse from my MIL. Then Tate and I  compromised on a Mother's Day/Father's Day gift and treated ourselves to new patio furniture and a pool. Go us!

Now, for some favorites that I missed on Friday...

This shirt. I talked about it a few weeks ago but had just received it in the mail so I'd never wore it. Now, I've ordered more colors because I love it so much!  It's soft and comfy and perfect to dress up or down!

These shirts...okay, now I didn't love these on me like I hoped I would - they did nothing for my straight figure - but I thought I'd share anyways because some are as low as $15! The colors are super cute, too!

My new favorite breakfast - whole wheat toast with avocado spread on it topped with strawberries and honey. Seriously, don't knock it until you try it (Mom, I'm looking at you!).

And I'm finished with school, until June that is. I'm taking May off, taking easy classes in June and July then I'll be ready to tackle the fall semester. Feels good to be finished with a tough class and get such a good grade. :)

I hope you all had a fantastic weekend.

Monthly Goals & To-Do's || May

Happy Cinco de Mayo! If Tate were her we'd be out celebrating with margs, dos xx and fajitas but since it's just me and B quesadillas at home will have to do! Ha. I could eat Mexican food every single day but my body would not appreciate that.
#bringonthechipsandguac

Now that my mouth is watering, lets see how I did with my goals for April. April was an unintentionally busy month and I was only able to really check off one thing from my list.

1. Go to bed earlier - Nope. This still didn't happen. Moving on.

2. Blog at least 3 times a week - Yes, this did happen.. kinda! Some weeks had 4 while others may have only had 2 but I didn't go one whole week without blogging.

3. Spring clean - I was able to do the kitchen and the closets. That's it. It's going to be summer before I finish my spring cleaning.

4. Make 3 'Whole 30' recipes a week - While we did eat cleaner this month, I have yet to actually make a strictly 'whole 30' meal.

5. Pick out paint - We're back to square one on this. We just can't decide and agree on just about nothing. Whyyyyy does it have to be so hard?

I'm going to keep the following  going each month:

1. Lose 2-3 lbs per month - I did lose 2 but I'm not counting that because I gained 2 last month!
2. Read 2-3 books per month - I read 1. And it was good. I'll share soon, hopefully.
3. Daily devotions - I read Jesus Calling every day but I still haven't found a Bible study.
4. Workout every day - nope.
And as for my 'don't really have to do but would be nice if I did' goals we did take Brylee to her first MLB game and finally made it to the zoo.

Starting with May, I'm going to do my monthly goals a bit different and divide them by categories. I also want to start recapping each month and I may combine the two. Maybe I'll figure out something, maybe not. We'll see.

Health and Fitness
-workout 3-4 times a week
-find a treadmill or a bike
-get more sleep
-eye doctor appointment
-See Sweat It Out for more

Home
-plant a garden/work on flower bed
-take down wallpaper in B's bathroom & paint it
-pick out paint for rest of the house
-living room floor
-paint outside of house
-finish spring cleaning
-finish living room

Blog
-post 3 times a week
-work on making pinnable pictures
-figure out twitter (no, I don't understand it! ha!)
-About Me page

Beauty
-hair appointment
-oily skin fix (thought I found it but back to the drawing board)
-new foundation (see above!)

Personal
-register for summer and fall classes
-tell people happy birthday/anniversary
-read 2 books
-order canvases and photo albums

Sooo, it's setup a bit different and there are more goals so I don't go into a lot of detail with each one. It seems like a lot but most of those are pretty easy to get done, I just need to do it! Cheers to a fantastic May!

Sweat It Out {1}

Happy Wednesday, girls! Welcome to the Sweat It Out link up! I hope you'll join along so we can all keep each other motivated and share our health and fitness tips! Sidenote: Sweat It Out goes live on the first Tuesday of each month. I completely over booked myself and had two finals yesterday which comes first. On top of that my computer freaked out on me and I'll be seeing the Geek Squad this weekend. So, I'm late to my own link up! However, it runs through Sunday so, if you're like me, you still have plenty of time to join in!

As I stated in this post, I've struggled with getting back on track for quite some time now. I keep making up excuses for myself and never really get motivated. Last month started off as a really good month for me and then we went out of town, had family in for the weekend and slowly I jumped off my game.

Last Monday I started the 8 Week Bikini Challenge with Tone It Up (yes, I talk about them a lot but truthfully, I love them and their program!) and up until yesterday I did great - I'll blame it on finals and I reallllly tried to say no to tacos but couldn't.

Again, the excuses! I did receive my 8 week progress journal and the rest of the package I bought along with their great meal plan and cannot wait to finally dig into that! My main goal through all of this is to tone up and lose about 15 lbs - which is very reasonable and doable. Yes, the number on the scale shouldn't matter, but the number it is now doesn't really make me happy. I also want to start eating much cleaner, and more of the time. I eat relatively clean, but hello... tacos (as mentioned above!), and I think periodically it's okay to have a treat as long as it's in moderation. Now that it's looking like spring is here to stay and Tate is finished with softball, I'd like to get back to running again and really pushing my morning workouts. With all that said, I'll be checking in my progress once a month and sharing what I've learned in the process. Ladies, we can do this!

Summing it up:
1. lose 15 lbs and tone up
2. eat clean
3. start running
4. push harder during workouts

Also for today, I wanted share with you my current favorite workout and post-workout smoothie! Yes, it's a Tone It Up workout, but read above! And as for the smoothie, it's been on repeat so much in my house, Brylee and I cannot get enough of it!

Burn It Up - A quick HIIT workout in less than 15 minutes, yes, please!

And this Banaberry smoothie - so good! (Brylee named this one :)!)

-1/2 C unsweetened almond milk
-1/4 C of protein powder*
-1/4 C Greek yogurt
-1/2 frozen banana
-1/2 C frozen blueberries

*I say 1/4 C because each protein powder scoop may be different. Mine equals 1/4 C.

Place all ingredients in blender (in that order) and mix until reaches your desired consistency. Sometimes I like to add a bit more frozen fruit to make it thicker for a smoothie bowl! This smoothie is a great source of protein, vitamin C, fiber, potassium and is a great antioxidant! Enjoy!

Quick tip on my smoothies - we buy a TON of fresh fruit in our house and if we don't happen to eat it before it starts to go bad I cut it up, bag it and freeze it! So easy to make smoothies with regardless of the fruit. A lot of times I have a mix and match of everything in there!

Late Weekending: The Giraffe Edition

Happy Monday, friends! This weekend came and went entirely too fast. And how in the world is it already May?? It's like I blinked and April was gone. I have a feeling this summer is going to fly by. We have so much planned and, looking at the calendar, only have about 3 free weekends until football season starts! Bring on weddings and showers and birthday parties and 7 on 7 football - whew! Summer 2016 - we are ready for you!

Now, I won't bore you with my weekend because it really only consisted of softball, the dog groomer and a trip to the grocery store, but I never got around to recapping our day at the zoo.  For about the last 2518 days few weeks Brylee has been bugging me about going to the zoo. They did the letter Z in school that week - think zoo and zebra everything - and has really wanted to go. We finally had a weekend of great weather and my sister came down so we figured it was the perfect time to go.

First we met up with some of my family for lunch and took some pictures with my favorite blondies before headed off to the zoo!

Is there anything cuter than 3 year old besties? No. The answer is no.

I love that our kids will grow up as close as we did. There's no better friend that a sister/cousin!

Haha ironically this picture was taken before we went into the zoo but it pretty much sums up how we all felt after!

Spring time so lots of babies!

I mentioned to B that she could feed the giraffes once we got there so that's all she talked about and wanted to do. The day we went also happened to be the grand opening of the new giraffe exhibit (which I did not know) and the amount of people were insane. We've been going to that zoo at least once a year for the past, oh 15 years (give or take a few), and I've never seen that many people there! We did have fun feeding Jamie though. Brylee said it was 'the absolute best time I've had my whole life'. Yup all 3 years of it. :)

This is our 'picture spot'. This year....

last year....

.. and a few years back when there was just one babe! See, our spot! I'm sure I could dig up pictures from 15 years ago and there would be some right there on that lookout!

I may or may not have bribed them all with fish food (for the fish, not themselves!)

We finished our day with scow cones. Yay for snow cone season! 99% of the time I get pickle juice (go ahead and judge, I've excepted it by now) and Brylee got princess, of course! It was bubblegum and coconut but colored purple and it was super sweet!

They just make me really happy. :) What's your favorite snow cone flavor?

Linking up with Biana.

Also, don't forget the new link up goes live tomorrow! We all want that motivation and accountability to get and stay healthy! Ashley, Sarah and I would love for you to join us to Sweat It Out!

Mother's Day Wishlist

So I keep this running list on my phone of things I want/need and when Tate is asking for gift ideas I can just grab a few off there and send it to him. It's a very specific list - like where to get it, color, size - so it's completely fool proof for him. He does great at picking things out off my list as well as things that aren't. Today I thought I'd share a few of those things plus some things I'll be getting my mom as well. Mother's Day is next Sunday so you better get to shopping!

one // How cute would this pillow be on her chair or bed?

two //  If she's into reading one of these books would be perfect! Balancing in Heels just arrived at my house and I've heard great things about The Rumor, or just about any Elin Hilderbrand book
.

three //  The other day while in Ulta getting Tate some crew for his hair I browsed through the perfumes. This one smelled so good that I wanted to leave with it right then!

four // These converse have been on my list for a while now and with softball and 7 on 7 football coming up, they would be the perfect comfy yet cute shoe to wear!

five // The Rodan + Fields self tanner has quickly become my favorite! The color is fantastic and the price is super affordable.

six // How cute is this bag from Charming Charlies? I love this color and it is the perfect spring staple!

seven // A mini polaroid camera  - enough said! This little gadget would be so much fun! Brylee and I would probably spend way too much money on film from using it too much.

eight // I have wanted a Stella and Dot engraved necklace for quite some time now. Wearing 'Brylee' on my neck would always make me smile.

nine // I love my Kate Spade studs so much. In fact, I'm wearing the multi glitter today. I think the mini studs would be so cute and simple! And by the way, while browsing online at Charming Charlies, I found this cheaper version of the regular size Kate Spade studs. I mean, $5! What?

ten // I need want these sandals so bad! I've been eyeing them for so long and just haven't bought them yet. I hear they are super comfy and they come in a ton of colors!

Along with these, a mani/pedi (go with her!), massage or a gift card to her favorite place would be great gifts as well!

I hope you have a few ideas now. Happy Friday Eve!

What's Up Wednesday | April

Good morning! Funny story - last night we were supposed to get a really bad hail storm so I pulled my car into the garage. I don't normally park in there because the garage is small and it's a tight fit for my Tahoe. Tate's truck doesn't fit so at least we would have one safe from hail. Anyways, because I never park in there I wasn't expecting it to be there at 4:30 AM when I went to get water from the garage fridge! Needless to say I scared myself and ran directly into it forgetting it was there. If I wasn't completely awake before then, I was after! Fast forward to 7:45 when we were leaving the house: got all our things and headed out the front door. Hello, Leah, it's not there! After getting B loaded and pulling out of the garage I realized I had no idea where the remote was so I had to run through the garage and hurry out of it to leave! Whew. Some morning!

Anywho, enough of my early morning blond moments, today is the last Wednesday of the month which means it's time for What's Up Wednesday! Today I'm linking up with some of my favorite gals to share what's been going on here lately.

What we're eating this week...
Anything and everything Tone It Up approved. Think Quinoa bowls, salads, lettuce wraps and lots and lots of protein! Luckily for Tate and Brylee, they get other things also. For example, I had a chicken wrap last night and they had chicken quesadillas. Same chicken, two ways!

What I'm reminiscing about...
My cousins moved to Abilene many many years ago and it was always a tradition to go that my aunt would take us to the Abilene Zoo each time we went to visit. The zoo has had many changes since we started going, but it's been an every summer thing. Now we've started taking our kids there and I love it. The top was this past weekend and the bottom was last year!

Both pictures were taken at the same spots and we continue this tradition every year. I love it!

What I'm loving lately...
Larabars! I told y'all that I finally gave them a try and quickly became obsessed with the chocolate chip cookie dough one. My local grocery store only carries two kinds so I ordered the variety pack from Amazon so I could try more. Thoughts so far: Cashew cookie is not good but Blueberry muffin is delicious.

What we've been up to...
We went to the new Giraffe exhibit at the zoo this weekend. So much fun, but so many people! Other than that, softball, school and work - ya know, the usual.

What I'm dreading...
I don't really feel like there is anything I'm dreading.

What I'm working on...
Spring cleaning! I've been saying I was going to start it for about 2 months now and I finally have. Go me!

What I'm excited about...
Well, after writing my Operation Get Fit post a while back I was determined I was going to do just that - get fit! I've been working so hard but isn't working out so much easier with an accountability partner? After a few emails and some organization Ashley from Girl Talk, Sarah from Sarah Emily Blogs and I will be starting a new link up! Link up with us the first Tuesday of every month with all your fitness goals, workouts, healthy recipes, favorite workout gear, etc! Basically link up anything health/fitness related! We all need accountability and motivation and that's exactly what this is. I'm so excited about this - grab the button and join us!

Girl Talk

What I'm watching/reading...
Watching: The Voice (Which I so desperately need to catch up on), Dancing With The Stars (so many teams that are so good right now that it's hard to pick a favorite!), and Real Housewives of Dallas. I'm continuing to watch the show while I'm doing something but I just don't care for this group of ladies. I'm hoping we get introduced to some different housewives soon.

Reading: I just finished Everything She Forgot by Lisa Ballantyne and haven't started reading anything else. I have a ton on my list but I just haven't had time to start one yet.

What I'm listening to...
Currently, the sound of me clicking away on the computer - I'm the only one awake and I'm enjoying this peace and quiet. As far as music goes, have y'all heard Three Year Old by Eric Church? I heard it a while back and thought 'hey, good song' but I really listened to it the other night and I was ugly crying! It's so crazy the things you learn/forget you knew just having a conversation with a kid. Their innocence is so special. With Mother's Day coming up anything like this is pulling my heartstrings.

What I'm wearing...
Workout clothes because I'm about to do my Bikini Series Day 3 workout! These shorts are my absolute favorite!

What I'm doing this weekend...
The only thing on the schedule for the weekend is the Softball playoff game(s). It's a 3 game series so we're hoping to win Thursday and Saturday morning so they won't have a double header on Saturday. I've never had any interest in softball but that was because I only played soccer growing up. Now, I'm finding a new love for softball. It's exciting! With the girls luck!

What I'm looking forward to next month...
I'm hoping next month is full of warm weather and mother nature gets her mood swings in order. May has a pretty open calendar except for Memorial Day weekend at the lake! Oh, and for Jojo - can't forget about her! :)

What else is new...
I've mentioned before that my step-sister was adopting a little girl. They've had her for over a year now but today is Gotcha Day and I'm so excited! I wish I could be there with them to celebrate this moment. Prayers that it all goes smoothly!

What's your favorite thing to get for Mother's Day...
This Mother's Day I'm hoping for my new patio furniture, maybe some new flowers to plant (since our one is still alive!!) and a full day with my two favorite people.

Enjoy your Wednesday, friends! And don't forget to mark your calendars for the Sweat It Out link up on May 3rd!
